Olympus's Surface Probes are highly useful in inspecting and detecting near-surface, as well as surface cracks. These basic-purpose probes consist of coils manufactured for greater frequencies with a relatively smaller diameter housing.

These specifications usually limit the applicable fields (usually only restricted to surface defects). However, some of the other probe designs and models compensate for it by malleable surface probes or 90-degree right angle surface probes, which are capable of reaching otherwise inaccessible areas (which basic straight surface probes are susceptible to).

The coils are interconnected to the probe in the bridge configuration (Fischer/LEMO triax connector) for testing with no need of external adapter.

Olympus' Surface Probes provide high precision coating thickness calibrations and conductivity functions. They can also be removed with Fischer/LEMO triax or Microdot connectors.
